AIRPORT TOPS IN THE STATE
The Williamson County Regional Airport has received the
2009 Airport of the Year Award for commercial service airports
throughout Illinois.
The award was presented by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s
Division of Aeronautics. The airport was also selected for this
award in 2006.
“To be chosen again amongst all of the commercial service airports in
Illinois is indeed an honor,” said Dr. Carl Planinc, Chairman of the
Williamson County Regional Airport Authority Board of Commissioners.
The criterial used for selection includes the facility’s safety record,
maintenance of the facility and cooperation and coordination with the
IDOT Division of Aeronautics and Federal Aviation Administration.
“More than anything, this award reflects the hard work of our staff,”
airport manager Doug Kimmel said. “I have one outstanding
secretary and five reliable maintenance employees that keep this place
maintained and operating seven days a week. None of this would be
possible without them.”
The award was presented at the recent Illinois Aviation Conference held
in Peoria.
